January 30, 2011 – 9:30 pm1/31/11 8:00 AM – OGS101 Lotusphere 2011 Opening General Session
Description
At the Lotusphere Opening General Session, led by Alistair Rennie, we’ll define Social Business, examine the market momentum and through several compelling examples, share stories from companies that are differentiating themselves by embracing social computing innovations today. This year’s theme is “Get Social. Do Business.” — so it should come as no surprise that you’re going to see social capabilities embedded across our product range. Of course, the session will address enhancements to the current Lotus Software and WebSphere Portal product portfolio, complete with demonstrations.
Review
Nicely done. Great demos of transportability between client, server, traveller, and smart phone.
1/31/11 2:15 PM – ID103 Reducing Costs Through Improved Serviceability
Description
How do we monitor and diagnose a server that hangs? How could we force failover? How do we collect a corrupt database without shutting down the server? Come here about some new Lotus Domino 8.5.2 features. What are the benefits of the Lotus Domino Diagnostic Probe and how do we use? We’ll all cover the benefits and uses of the Automatic Corrupt Database Collector.
Review
Enable built in automated functions to capture corrupt databases without having to stop Domino. Capturing a database allows analysis and repair without having to disrupt operations.
1/31/11 6:15 PM – BOF407 Lotus Knows Virtualization
Description
Virtualization is not a new technology, but many Lotus customers are new to virtualization. This session will help clients find the answers to their questions on storage virtualization, server virtualization, and virtual desktops. The Lotus labs, with our alliance partners at NetApp and VMware, have built a virtual test environment using IBM N series storage, NetApp storage efficiencies, and VMware technologies. Clients will have the opportunity to learn how we built this VDI solution to solve our problems. Customers will leave this session with a comprehensive understanding of the benefits of deploying Lotus software within their virtual environment.
Review
Nicely done, but nothing that I haven’t experienced or experimented with before. Expensive equipment to maintain performance. Virtual desktops with thin clients is ideal for the call center or pretty much anywhere else at NFCU. The way we are doing it now seems like a waste of resources and equipment.
